HUGE NEWS!! We just got back from Ami's pre-op check up. We visited the anesthesiologist first, and then the ear surgeons, because as you remember Ami's operation was switched from local to general anesthesia. That's why it was postponed for 5 months.
We waited a good two hours in the waiting room for the anesthesiologist, and then I didn't have the blood tests we needed, or any x-rays, in short, I was unprepared. However, we had time until May 13th so she finished the paperwork and sent us back to the ear surgeon.
A TALE OF TWO SURGEONS
Two of the doctor's who have been watching over Ami's case were in the room, and they are very concerned over him. They checked the ears - and there's been IMPROVEMENT!! Lots of improvement, the holes are smaller - the ear drum is growing back - however they found skin growing in a place where it shouldn't be in the right ear- and the hole in the right ear drum is so big they said "in the natural" that even if there is more healing, it won't completely close. HOWEVER, all of a sudden we weren't talking about such a major operation as it was going to be before - and we were talking about local anesthesia again, and not general. They said that it makes the whole operation more simple, and he doesn't need a graft anymore, but an under lay, or over lay - I can't remember.
Then one of the surgeon's went out to reschedule the operation, and he said - "There's a cancellation for tomorrow- do you want to do it?" We all said "yes" in unison, and we began scurrying around, getting everything organized.
All the paperwork got done, we had another appointment with the chief surgeon, a totally delightful older gentleman who looked at Ami and said, "We have a problem - we don't have beds big enough for him!" He joked around with all of us, he and David ended up speaking Yiddish to one another, and then he told the other surgeons - this is a solo operation - I'm doing this alone, meaning - you can't help me!! Then I realized they were kind of fighting over who would do the operation!
Oh the favor of God, and how grateful we are to you, our family, who have prayed faithfully for his ears to heal. The Lord has heard and is answering....
DETAILS, HOW TO PRAY
We are so jubilant and excited, this has been a huge lift to all of our spirits, especially for Ami of course. The doctor said that the surgery is not painful, but the after affects can be a little pain and dizziness, or loss of balance. He'll have to be in the hospital for a day or two, and then his ear will be packed up with bandages which will slowly dissolve in the ear. After 6 weeks, in which he can't fly in a plane, play basketball and any other sport, or lift heavy things, he will have another appointment to check the hearing and see if the surgery was successful. It is not always successful, and so we need to pray for safety also, because if he gets hit in the ear, it could ruin the whole surgery.
I will write probably next week with the results of the operation because a group of 22 are coming from our congregation in the U.S. for 10 days on Friday, but I will try to grab moments to keep you updated. Again - BIG Thanks and hugs from all of us for your friendship and prayer.
WORDS FROM JOSHUA CHAPTER 2
I've been reading the book of Joshua, and it is so rich. I began reading it with our Youth Group also - challenging them to take from these very ancient scriptures truths for their lives today. This was the generation that was born in the desert, that had the faith to take the promised land for the nation of Israel. They're called the Joshua generation, although Joshua was 80 years old at this time. Hallelujah!
Rahab's Salvation Experience (parenthesis are mine)
Joshua 2:8-11
8 Now before they lay down (the two spies), she(Rahab) came up to them on the roof, 9 and said to the men: "I know that the LORD has given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you. 10 For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt(40years before), and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were on the other side of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. 11 And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the LORD your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.
Amen and Amen.
